KK-Putatan LRT implementable in five years – Yahya
PUTATAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) Putatan aims to establish a Kota Kinabalu-Putatan Light Rail Transit (LRT) public transportation system before the 15th general election in 2023.
Umno Sabah secretary and Putatan Division chief Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin said the LRT is among the pledges listed in the BN Putatan Manifesto which he described as ‘implementable’.
“I believe this will be implemented in five years because there were already suggestions in the past. We were given the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) but it has not been implemented so we change it to the LRT. We prefer to have the LRT,” he said.
Yahya, who is also caretaker Deputy Chief Minister cum Agriculture and Food Industry Minister, and former Petagas assemblyman, said the LRT will increase connectivity, making it convenient for the people, tourists and traders to travel between both destinations.
With the LRT, he foresees the creation of more jobs and further reduction of traffic congestion in Putatan.
Currently, Yahya said the LRT project had been discussed and mentioned at the state government level.
He added the Putatan Manifesto also includes a promise to build within a five-year goal, two more secondary schools and another two or three primary schools in the district to deal with the overcrowding of schools caused by the rapid boom in district population.
“I can make a promise that we can implement, apply for. Two more schools are not that out of reach, I can ask the Education Ministry and say that we have more residents, children,” said Yahya at the BN flag and campaign materials presentation to the Putatan machineries at Dewan Sri Putatan here yesterday.
Yahya presented 1,000 BN flags as well as t-shirts, and other campaigning materials to all 16 Putatan district polling center (PDM) heads during the ceremony.
He said there are six PDMs located in Petagas while the rest are located in the Tanjung Aru state constituency.
