Blackouts to be over when second grid is ready

-

KUCHING: Power outage in the state is expected to be solved after the completion of the second grid – the 500KV transmission line from Lundu to Lawas in June.

According to Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Supply Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, the second line will further improve electricity supply in the state as the first grid currently serves the electricity needs of up to three million residents across the state.

“The new transmission grid with capacity of 500KV will be adequate to solve power outage issues.

“We hope that areas such as Petra Jaya will not face the problem which has been happening frequently once the new line is up and running,” said Dr Abdul Rahman.

He was speaking after officiating at the opening of Sunan Bonang Multipurpose Hall at Kampung Demak Fasa 2, here yesterday.

Earlier at the event, Dr Abdul Rahman said the hall was built with grant from the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), an initiative by the late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

“Use this hall for activities to bring together the people of this village,” he said.

“There are a lot of programmes that can be organised and it is important to include the participation of everyone,” he advised.

He also urged the villagers and Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) to be more proactive in proposing programmes for the village.

“We will look into proposals and depending on budget, they will be considered. What is important is the programme must benefit the people,” he added.
