Five illegals jailed

TAWAU: Four men were sentenced to two months in jail and one stroke of the cane while a woman was jailed for two months by the Sessions Court here yesterday for entering the country illegally.

Sessions Court Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud imposed the sentence on Indonesian­s Madi bin Muhammad, 25, Adi bin Abdul Saip, 25, Filipinos, Albain bin Faizal, 24, Hakim bin Balak, 40, and Sofia bte Hassan, 26, to charge under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigratio­n Act which provides for RM10,000 fine or imprisonme­nt of not more than five years or both upon conviction and whipping of not more than six strokes.

Madi was detained on April 16, 2018 at about 7.30pm at Tanjung Batu Road. He was born in Indonesia and entered Tawau without any documents.

Adi was caught on April 15, 2018 at about 8,45pm at Sweet Pub, Fajar Complex. He was born in Makasar, Indonesia and entered Tawau by sea without any documents.

Albain was caught on September 18, 2017 at about 4pm at Jade Industry area, Mile 3 Apas. He was born in Kg.Bangau-Bangau, Semporna and both parents are Filipinos.

Hakim was caught on April 3, 2018 at about 3.45pm beside the road of an oil palm estate, Bukit Gemuk. He was born in the Philippine­s and entered the country illegally.

Sofia was caught on April 7, 2018 at about 12.30am at Dunlop Road area. She was born in Tawau but has no documents and has been staying in Tawau until she was caught.

Prosecutin­g office ASP Dg Nur Azarnawaty prosecuted the cases.
