Hopes Malaysia restores water supply to Kota Belud village
KOTA KINABALU: Hopes Malaysia successfully restored the water supply at Kg Takulung by building a new and sustainable gravity water system for the village, in March.
After the completion of Kg Tudan water project last year, Hopes Malaysia went on to solve the Kg Takulung water supply problem.
Kg Takulung is a village in Kota Belud with a population of about 500 people.
For more than a year the villagers had water supply problem due to worn-out and leaking pipes which were buried underground, making it difficult to locate and repair the damage.
Hopes Malaysia was able to obtain sponsorship from Desa Cargill Sdn Bhd, Suria Capital Holdings Sdn Bhd, Luscious Solution & Comfort Zone Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Association of Hotels Sabah & Labuan Chapter, and Sebangga Auto Sdn Bhd in kind and in monetary form to make the project possible.
The water project was completed at the end of March with help from the public, volunteer groups, associations and corporate companies, namely members from Persatuan Harmoni Mesra Sabah, Young Engineer Society, employees from Suria Capital Holdings Sdn Bhd, Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Company Sdn Bhd, Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu and other individuals from various background and professions. Working alongside the villagers the construction took three weeks to complete.
According to the founder of Hopes Malaysia, Sam Lee, they will continue to monitor the facilities and ensure its condition is being maintained after the completion of the project. He also mentioned that they will continue to further develop sustainable water projects by building gravity water systems and may also consider water sanitation in 2019.
