BN state chairmen to announce candidates from today

PUTRAJAYA: The names of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates for the 14th general election (GE14) would be revealed by the respective state BN chairmen between today and Tuesday.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the respective state BN chairmen would set the date and time for the announceme­nt.

“The names of candidates for the Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan federal territorie­s will be announced along with the manifesto at 9 am tomorrow (Sunday) at the Putra World Trade Centre,” he said after launching the groundbrea­king ceremony of a multi-level parking structure at Phase 4B Neighbourh­ood at Presint 8 here yesterday.

Tengku Adnan, who is also Umno secretary-general, said he had received the report on the screening of the selected BN candidates for GE14 from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Royal Malaysia Police and Department of Insolvency.

The Terengganu BN will announce it candidates contesting for the 32 state and eight parliament­ary seats in the GE14 today.

A statement issued by the Menteri Besar’s office said the announceme­nt would be made by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, who is also State Umno Liaison chairman, at his official residence, Seri Iman, at 10.30 am.

On Friday, Ahmad Razif , who is the incumbent Seberang Takir assemblyma­n, announced that he would defend his state seat in GE14.

He also confirmed the names of candidates who would be contesting in the Kuala Nerus parliament­ary constituen­cy, but did not say which seat they would be fielded for.

They are Dr Tengku Asmadi Tengku Mohamad, Datuk Basir Ismail, Tuan Arif Sahibul Fadilah Tuan Ahmad and Che Mansor Salleh.

Ahmad Razif also fulfilled the state BN’s promise of fielding a female candidate in GE14, naming Marang Wanita Umno leader Toh Puan Zaitun Mat Amin.

In the 13th general election, BN was able to form the state government in Terengganu after winning 17 of the 32 state seats. It won four out of eight parliament­ary seats in the state.
