PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has sold 3,737 nomination forms for the 14th General Election (GE14) as at Friday, April 20.

Of the total, 1,220 are the nomination forms for parliament­ary seats and 2,517 are for state seats, the EC said in a statement here yesterday.

It said in Kuala Lumpur, 43 nomination forms were sold, while in Sarawak, 125 forms.

Among the states which recorded the highest sales of the nomination forms were Sabah and Labuan with 288 forms for parliament­ary and 605 for state seats; Pulau Pinang (120 parliament­ary and 390 state seats); Selangor (112 parliament­ary and 269 state seats); Kedah (100 parliament­ary and 241 state seats); and Johor (101 parlimenta­ry and 120 state seats).

In Perak, 86 nomination forms for parliament­ary seats and 189 state seats were sold, followed by Kelantan (69 parliament­ary and 194 state seats); Pahang (57 parliament­ary and 172 state seats); Terengganu (42 parliament­ary and 128 state seats); Melaka (21 parliament­ary and 93 state seats); Negeri Sembilan (6 parliament­ary and 58 state seats); and Perlis (5 parliament­ary and 13 state seats).

Besides, the EC said 45 nomination forms for parliament­ary seats and 45 others for state seats had also been sold at its headquarte­rs here.

The polling day for the GE14 has been set on May 9, nomination on April 28 and early voting on May 5.

A total of 222 parliament­ary seats and 505 state seats, not including Sarawak’s, will be contested in the GE14. Sarawak has already conducted its state elections in 2016.
