SANDAKAN: Teachers’ roles in educating the young generation and contributing ideas towards the nation’s education will always be appreciated, said Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Haji Aman.

He added that teachers play vital roles in society as they not only teach, do research but also administer the school.

“These are vast responsibilities shouldered by teachers. Hence, I try my best to attend every Teacher’s Day celebration each year to appreciate and present awards to outstanding teachers.

“Both Federal and State governments have also expressed appreciation to teachers by taking care of their needs and giving assistance to ease their learning and teaching process in schools,” he said.

Musa believes that the close relationship between teachers and the government will continue after the 14th general election.

“The government has always realised the importance to have comfortable environment for both students and teachers, and therefore hads channeled huge allocations to upgrade and repair dilapidated schools in Sabah and Sarawak,” he added.

Musa was speaking at the Teachers’ Day celebration and Outstanding Service Award presentation for Sandakan at the Sri Libaran Hall on Saturday. At the event, 120 teachers from Sandakan received awards for their outstanding service in 2017. He also presented the 2017 ‘Tokoh Guru’ award for Sandakan to Ng Kim Choy, a former teacher from Penang.

Also present at the event were State education director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul, Sandakan education officer Sharif Mahada Sharif Attar, and local leaders.
