Muhyiddin assures no clash in fielding of candidates

SANDAKAN: Pakatan Harapan deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin assured that there would be no clash among opposition parties in fielding contestants in Sabah.

“We have made a deal to work together; form close ties with each other as we have the same aspiration, which is to topple Barisan Nasional during the 14th general election (GE),” he said.

Speaking at the ‘Ceramah Perdana PRU Pakatan Harapan’ at Yu Yuan Multipurpose Hall yesterday, Muhyiddin said every opposition party should set aside their own struggles and focus on being a team for this 14th GE.

“I believe everyone of us has our own fights. However, we shall emerge as a strong team, support each other. Support every fielded contestant from Pakatan Harapan and Warisan in Sabah,” he said.

Muhyiddin, who is also Parti Pribumi Malaysia (PPBM) president, said the recent manifesto launched by Pakatan Harapan would benefit all walks of life, uphold various aspects such as education, health, infrastructure and so forth.

He said it was therefore important for eligible people to check their current status to enable them to cast their votes on May 9.

Meanwhile, Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said in his speech that his party had to make sacrifices in its pact with Sabah Pakatan Harapan.

He said his top leaders are losing their seats in the general election as they are looking at the bigger picture for the state and the nation.

Warisan treasurer Moyog assemblyman Terence Siambun is making way for Sabah PKR to contest his seat while deputy president and Penampang MP Darell Leiking will also not be getting the state seat of Inanam, which has also been allocated to Sabah PKR.

“I have made sacrifices and some of my top leaders won’t be contesting because of the bigger picture,” he said.

“I can assure you wherever DAP or PKR contest, Warisan will not contest.

“We will support you and we want you to do the same for us,” said the five-term Semporna MP.

Warisan recently concluded its seat negotiations with Sabah PKR and Sabah DAP. Sabah PKR is contesting six parliament and nine state seats while Sabah DAP is getting three parliament and seven state seats.

However, Warisan has had no seat negotiations with Sabah Parti Amanah Negara, which is also a component party under Sabah Pakatan.

This means that out of 25 parliament and 60 state seats in Sabah, Warisan will go for 16 parliament seats and 44 state seats.

Shafie also said it was time for Sabah to have a new political landscape to build a Malaysian nation.

He also denied being a crony and said Warisan would always defend Sabah’s rights.

Shafie also said Warisan would be a prime player in the Malaysian government and will not be a follower.

He told the gathering of more than 5,000 people that his Warisan government had a comprehensive blueprint on how to tackle issues related to planned and proper development in Sabah.

He added his government would invest heavily in education as he wanted to see Sabahans gain a good education, and with the right human capital, Sabah could progress and compete with the rest of the world.
