Salleh urges parents to take advantage of Tuisyen Rakyat@ KKLW programme

-

KOTA BELUD: Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak yesterday advised parents to take full advantage of a government tuition programme that aims to ensure equal educational opportunities for rural children.

He said the Tuisyen Rakyat@ KKLW programme was a facility to help enhance the level of education of less fortunate rural schoolchildren.

“The programme is a government effort to ensure that people in the rural areas can also enjoy facilities similar to those in the urban centres,” he said at the launch of the Tuisyen Rakyat@KKLW for the Kota Belud parliamentary constituency at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pekan 2 here.

Meanwhile, Mara Education Foundation (YPM) chairman Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan said the programme was implemented through a corporate social responsibility concept by all agencies under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKLW).

“Last year, about 28,000 schoolchildren benefited from the Tuisyen Rakyat@KKLW at 600 tuition centres nationwide,” she said, adding that this year’s target was 30,000 students. The text of her speech was read out by YPM deputy chairman Maslina Aloh.

Zahida said the Tuisyen Rakyat@KKLW programme in the Kota Belud parliamentary constituency involved 100 schoolchildren from SMK Pekan 1 and SMK Pekan 2.
