M'sians urged to unite against infiltrators

-

KOTA BELUD: Malaysians have been urged to unite against the country’s enemies that are out to destroy the existing racial and religious harmony via various approaches.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak cited technology as one of the ways used by the enemies to infiltrate the country.

“Our country’s enemies today are different from those of the past because they can infiltrate via many ways. Many parties are envious of our country’s achievements... they make use of certain quarters to disunite us by smearing us and which will then be circulated through social media such as WhatsApp.

“Therefore, I hope the people will band together to resist this menace, in spite of our political differences. We need to fight the country’s enemies together for the sake of peace and harmony,” he said while opening the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM), Kota Belud branch AGM here yesterday.

He said of late, fake news had been making the rounds particularly through WhatsApp, that were plainly baseless and disparaging.

“That was why the government approved the Anti-Fake News Bill. It is intended to prevent the spread of fake news and it is for the good of the people,” he said.

At the event, Salleh also launched the Kota Belud PVATM Welfare Fund and started its ball rolling with a RM20,000 contribution.

Meanwhile in a separate event, he presented financial capital to 93 individuals and seven groups under the Youth Entreprenuership Scheme Sabah (YESS).
