Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman said the government had helped taxi drivers through various initiatives, including RM5,000 that was given to each taxi driver who had join the E-hailing service to purchase new vehicles as stated in National Budget 2018.

RM60 million was also allocated for taxi drivers’ Perkeso protection.

Musa said this in his speech delivered by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Raymond Tan Shu Kiah at the launch of the state level 1Malaysia Taxi Assistance Card presentation ceremony.

The ceremony was organised by the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Sabah.

A total of 4,000 taxi drivers in Sabah will be receiving the card worth RM800 each.

Meanwhile, Musa asked taxi drivers to spread only good words about Malaysia to tourists as they could show positive image of the country.

“You are the first liners in the tourism industry. You are the mini ambassador of Malaysia. You can give tourists a positive image of Malaysia,” he said.

Also present at the ceremony were LPKP Sabah director Arfian Julian and Sandakan Municipal Council president Datuk James Wong.
