Warisan to contest 17 parliament­ary, 45 state seats

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) will be fielding a mix of candidates from various background­s to contest in 45 state and 17 parliament­ary seats in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).

President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said candidates who were given the mandate comprised Wira, Wirawati, Wanita as well as profession­als and former government servants.

“We are fielding seven women candidates including Wirawati, which is quite a large number as we want women and youths to play their role.

“We also have profession­al candidates including former lecturers and former deputy Syariah chief judge Aidi Mokhtar.

“This is something new for Sabah, where many of our candidates are Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) holders and lawyers,” he said at the announceme­nt of GE14 Warisan candidates, yesterday. Among those nominated by Warisan are former Barisan Nasional (BN) Bongawan assemblyma­n Datuk Karim Bujang, former Sipitang MP Yusof @ Josree Yacob and former Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Datuk VK Liew.

Candidates for the 17 parliament­ary seats are Noor Halim Zaini (P166 Labuan), Sh Azman Sh Along (P167 Kudat), Barlus Mangabis (P168 Kota Marudu), Isnaraissa­h Munirah Majilis @ Fakharudy (P169 Kota Belud), Mohd Azis Jamman (P171 Sepanggar), Darell Leiking (P174 Penampang), Ahmad Hassan (P175 Papar), Karim Bujang (P176 Kimanis), Noor Hayaty Mustapha (P178 Sipitang), Jake Nointin (P180 Keningau), Japar Zairun (P183 Beluran), Irwanshah Mustapa (P184 Libaran), VK Liew (P185 Batu Sapi), Mohd Ismail Ayob (P187 Kinabatang­an), Mohammadin Ketapi (P188 Silam), Shafie Apdal (P189 Semporna) and Mamun Sulaiman (P191 Kalabakan).
