Kalabakan in the bag for BN – Ghapur

-

TAWAU: Kalabakan parliament is confident the people will vote for Barisan Nasional (BN) based on BN’s good performance record.

Four-term Kalabakan parliamentary candidate Datuk Seri Panglima Abdul Ghapur Salleh believes the people around Kalabakan would return Kalabakan parliament and three constituencies Sebatik, Tanjong Batu and Merotai, back to BN when polling starts on May 9.

“We pledge we will fight for the fate of Kalabakan parliament. We are already aware that BN under Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Tan Seri Musa Aman had shown good track records in the past,” he said when met yesterday.

“So we hope the people in Kalabakan will no longer choose another candidate but only BN candidates,” he said.

Ghapur said he did not want to make promises as the people could see that before, Kalabakan was backward but under BN, it has been given all the facilities such as roads, lights and water in all areas under parliament, including Sebatik Island.

He said electricity supply in Sebatik was only for six hours before, from 6pm to midnight, but now it has a 24-hour electricity supply since BN had connected electricity supply from the mainland through a sub-marine cable.

“We will try to increase development activities in Kalabakan,” he said.

On the opposition, he said his sides did not want to belittle the opposition but believed voters would not want to choose other than BN candidates.

“We are ready to take part in the fight against the new party. The new party only wants to try its luck in the elections, then after the elections it will be silent,” he said.

“I have been an assemblyman for four terms. I am convinced that people in Kalabakan know me, know Datuk Hamisa, know Datuk Muis and they know Merotai, though the candidate Jonathan is a new candidate but Umno Kalabakan will help if there is any problem or issues with Merotai,” he said.

Meanwhile, BN Tanjong Batu candidate Datuk Hamisa Samat said BN would win, must win, as her Tanjong Batu motto is ‘ must win the war’.

“I would like to thank party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Sabah Umno Sabah chairman Tan Sri Datuk Musa Aman for giving me the trust and confidence once again as the N.59 Tanjong Batu candidate,” she said.

Hamisa said her candidacy was also a tribute to women because this year was a year of empowering women.

“This is evident when women are placed as candidates; it is a recognition for women. Our mission is to uphold the cause of women’s sacrifice. This election is the mother of all elections so we will face various issues raised by the opposition.

“We are confident and believe in our voters, that they have already felt that the BN government has been helping them,” she said.
