IGP reminds supporters to be on best behaviour during nomination process

SHAH ALAM: The public and supporters of political parties contesting in the 14th General Election (GE14) must show good discipline and a sense of responsibi­lity so as not to affect the country's peace and harmonay, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

He said police had made thorough preparatio­ns to prevent any untoward incidents during the GE14 period.

He said approximat­ely 70 per cent out of the 150,000 police personnel and officers nationwide were all fully prepared to safeguard the GE14 process with 15,000 of them deployed in Selangor to ensure smooth running of the election process.

”The general election has taken place 13 times, therefore in the 14th edition, everyone must demonstrat­e their maturity. Do not let political obsession affect public safety. The election campaign will begin after today's nomination process and during this period, we will increase monitoring.

”I would like to remind all parties that police will not compromise with any elements that pose a threat to national security,” he told reporters after attending a Buddhist religious programme in conjunctio­n with the 211st Police Day celebratio­ns at Samadhi Vihara, Section U12 yesterday.

Meanwhile, Kelantan police chief Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan reminded supporters of political to avoid any form of provocatio­n throughout the nomination process, which will be held at 14 nomination centres, namely four in Kota Bharu, two in Pasir Mas and one each in other districts.

”A number of police personnel will be deployed at all nomination centres as early as 6am to ensure the safety of the areas is always guaranteed,” he told a press conference at the Kelantan police contingent headquarte­rs in Kota Bharu yesterday.

He said Kelantan police had also received informatio­n that there would be a candidate who would be accompanie­d by some 8,000 supporters to the nomination centre and that the number would likely reach tens of thousands considerin­g other parties contesting.

”We are always ready with this kind of situation and we have called the candidate as well as the party representa­tives asking them to advise their supporters to maintain good conduct throughout the nomination process,” he said. - Bernama
