MyWatch lodges MACC report over opposition leader’s alleged corruption
The Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) yesterday lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the allegation that an opposition party senior leader had received bribes in connection with the 14th general election (GE14).
Its chairman, Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan, said he lodged the report following a disclosure posted in a blog claiming that an opposition leader has received bribes from several individuals to enable them to contest in the GE14 under the opposition tickets.
“Apart from the blog, I also received information that the leader has received cash involving millions of ringgit from six individuals, nationwide,” he told the media at the MACC headquarters yesterday.
Sanjeevan hoped the MACC would carry out a thorough investigation into the allegation to ensure that the GE14 would be carried out in a transparent and fair manner.
“I would like to emphasise that the report is lodged with no hidden political interest and if this allegation is proven true, clearly it is an act that violates the process of fair democracy.
“Even if the individuals who offered the money were to contest and win, they certainly will not serve the people but will try to recover their investment in getting the seats,” he said. Bernama
