Same amount of BR1M if PH becomes govt — Guan Eng

-

SANDAKAN: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Secretary General Lim Guan Eng said that if Pakatan Harapan (PH) wins the election and becomes the government, the rakyat will still receive assistance similar to BR1M with the same amount proposed by the Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Prime Minister (Datuk Seri) Najib Razak announced that BN is going to increase BR1M to RM2,000 (increase from RM1,200 to RM2,000 for households with income less than RM3,000). I’d like to announce that PH will also give the same amount of BR1M to the rakyat if PH becomes the government.

“In addition, Goods and Services Tax (GST) will also be abolished if PH wins,” he said during a DAP talk held at Yu Yuan Secondary School, Mile 4 here on Monday night.

The Chief Minister of Penang said that Penang, upon 100 per cent completion of its development projects, did not use all the allocations for the projects involved.

“The National Auditor General said this. We (Penang) used 55 per cent of the allocation to complete the projects. Which means we have 45 per cent allocation that is still not used.

“The way we (PH) work is different from BN (PH open tender). That is why we managed to save a lot of money. This is what we did in Penang. Imagine if we (PH) govern Puterajaya? We will be able to sort out so much money that it will be enough for us to abolish GST and we can still afford to give RM2,000 of BR1M.

“Not only that, we may also have extra for other things like subsidising gas price,” he said.

Lim also said that Sabah is the richest state in Malaysia but Sabahans are the poorest in Malaysia, which is not right.

“PH will ensure that autonomy is given to Sabah. Malaysia is made of Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak; so Sabah is one of three parts that made up Malaysia, Sabah is not one of 14 states in Malaysia. No Sabah, no Malaysia.

“Some parts of Sabah still do not have electricity and water supply. After 55 years governing, BN still cannot give you (Sabah) the basic necessity, yet they (BN) call you their fixed deposit. Let’s break this fixed deposit and vote for DAP,” he added.

Lim said that Sabahans will enjoy 50 per cent tax return if PH wins the election.

The talk was attended by about 1,300 local voters of all ages and races. Lim spoke in two languages, Mandarin and Malay.

The talk ended with Lim chanting “509!” and the attendees replied, “change the Government!” in Mandarin.

Also present were the DAP candidates in Sandakan namely Sabah DAP chairman Stephen Wong (P.186 Sandakan federal seat); Calvin Chong (N45 Elopura state seat) and Frankie Poon (N46 Tanjong Papat state seat), who each gave their speeches.
