BN candidate using racial sentiments to intimidate voters — DAP

-

TAWAU: Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Tawau, Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching, is playing with racial sentiments to intimidate Chinese voters here in order to achieve her political goals, claimed Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate for Sri Tanjong, Jimmy Wong Sze Phin.

Jimmy was criticizing an advertisement by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) published in a Chinese newspaper here yesterday.

The advertisement was about the Tawau parliamentary P190, which has 60,006 voters, out of which 40,080 were Bumiputra and 19,926 Chinese, who made up 33.5 per cent of the total voters. The analysis showed that even if the opposition party obtained all the Chinese votes and some votes from the Bumiputra minority, they still could not win.

Jimmy said it was regretful that PBS as a multi-ethnic political party was bringing up this racial sentiment data analysis to intimidate the Chinese voters here in order to achieve the candidate’s political goals. This really violated the party’s principle of struggle.

“The people want a minister who has real power without asking for quantity. The MCA has four ministers but sadly, they were weak and incompetent. PBS is now walking along the ‘old road’ of MCA and today, there is no way to propose a better governance plan.

“Mary has incited the voters’ emotions and she does not meet the multi-racial party spirit of PBS. It is also not a spirit of 1Malaysia,” Jimmy added.

He also questioned why such advertisement was not published in the Malay and English newspapers as well.

According to him, all political parties will sit on an equal footing with power checks and balances if Pakatan Harapan were in power; unlike BN, where Umno is the dominant party. They (PH) will not reduce the number of Chinese ministers while the virtuous will be given priority.
