FCAS hopes China research institute will help Sabah economy

KOTA KINABALU: The Federation of Chinese Associatio­ns Sabah (FCAS) president Tan Sri Dr T.C. Goh, JP hoped that the China Research Institute for Silk Road Green Developmen­t Foundation would assist the federation in spurring the State’s economy and support the developmen­t of Chinese education in Sabah.

He said the research institute would find a host of potential developmen­t opportunit­ies in Sabah given the rich natural resources here.

“These resources may be worthless to us but it could be gold to you.

“Hence, we hope the institute could come to Sabah and assist us in growing our economic pie,” Goh said in a welcoming dinner for the China Research Institute for Silk Road Green Developmen­t Foundation delegation here on Monday.

He also introduced FCAS as the largest non-profit Chinese associatio­n in Sabah with 152 member associatio­ns.

With the exception of politics, he said the federation was involved in economy, religion, education, youth sports, women and senior citizens’ welfare activities.

He said the State Government had entrusted the federation with organizing the Chinese New Year Carnival and the Sabah FCAS Internatio­nal Dragon Boat Race.

He said the fifth Sabah FCAS Internatio­nal Dragon Boat Race would be held on May 12 and 13 this year.

Goh added that the State Government had provided a grant of RM250,000 to organize the race but the actual cost of hosting the event was about RM500,000.

As such, he thanked the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu for sponsoring RMB50,000, as well as the federation’s advisors and sponsors for their financial support.

Meanwhile, Jin Yishi, head of the China Research Institute for Silk Road Green Developmen­t Foundation, was impressed by natural resources in Malaysia.

He also announced a donation of RM50,000 to Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School on the spot.
