PH should stop thuggish conduct and act within bounds — Liow

- - Bernama

BENTONG: Pakatan Harapan has been reminded not to act out of bounds and behave like thugs by hurting members of public when campaigning in the 14th general election (GE14).

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the main agenda of candidates during campaign was to deliver the party’s vision and mission to develop the constituency they are contesting.

Nonetheless what occurred in Ayer Hitam, Johor yesterday was shameful when a 74-year-old Barisan Nasional (BN) supporter sustained three broken ribs after he was pushed off the stage by an opposition supporter believed from DAP.

“I am very sad that politics in the country was getting violent, I urge police and the Election Commission to monitor the situation to ensure peace and harmony during GE14,” he told reporters at the Felda Mempaga 3 Family Day celebration here yesterday.

A video of the incident went viral on social media as soon as it took place.

Liow who is contesting in the Bentong parliamentary seat as BN candidate was worried if the authorities did not take the appropriate action, the despicable incident in Ayer Hitam may recur elsewhere.

“I have directed MCA to lodge a police report and arrest should be made against the offender. The victim who was punched and fell off the stage should be accorded justice,” he said.

Asked if MCA members would retaliate against opposition supporters, Liow gave his assurance the matter would not happen.

“We in MCA and BN are very responsible, we act maturely, we do not have thuggish behaviour like what was seen in DAP.

There is no need to quarrel... politics is a contest of political agenda and plans.

“No need to use dirty tactics... I urge the people to see for themselves and how we could choose candidates who are really responsible in developing their constituencies,” he said.
