They are the frogs not us — Tsu Koon

GEORGE TOWN: All Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates are chosen from the state and they have been serving the constituencies for years, says former Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

He said if the DAP-led opposition want to make it an issue of the candidates not being picked from the constituencies they are contesting, then they (DAP) should look at the mirror themselves.

“DAP should look at the mirror themselves, their candidates are jumping all over including Lim Kit Siang from Malacca to Petaling Jaya back to Malacca then come to Penang, Perak and now Johor.

“They are the frogs. I think they are the one jumping around the most,” he told reporters after accompanying Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates to meet and greet market goers at Mount Erskine here yesterday.

Koh was commenting on the opposition campaign ‘ceramah’, in which DAP leaders claimed that BN’s candidates in Penang were not chosen from the state constituencies.

Koh, who is former Penang chief minister, said all the candidates chosen to contest are from Penang and even if they are not Penangborn, they had settled down and lived in the state for some time.

Citing an example, he said Teng Chang Yeow, the BN candidate for Tanjong Bunga state seat, has studied and lived in Penang for many years, unlike DAP’s candidates, some only came when the general election was just around corner.

Teng, who is also Penang BN chairman, is challenged by DAP’s Zairil Khir Johari, Chua Cheong Wee of Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and Lee Zheng Yong of Malaysia United Party in a fourcornered tussle.

“Under the constitution, as long as you are registered voters in the state, you can contest in the state,” he said.

Meanwhile, Koh said he would help BN candidates during the 14th General Election (GE14) campaign and attend the Teluk Intan Big ceramah last night.
