Think wisely before marking your ballots, Baram voters reminded

-

MARUDI: A former election candidate, who stood as an independent in the last state election, is calling upon all Baram constituents to ‘think wisely’ before casting their votes on polling day this May 9.

Dr Roland Dom Mattu contested in Mulu state constituency in 2016, but lost to Datuk Gerawat Gala of Barisan Nasional (BN).

He viewed the coming parliamentary polls as crucial and as such, the people must vote for change towards a better future.

“We cannot afford to continue like this (being left behind, in terms of development).

“The voters must think carefully. We are so far behind – even the (Marudi-Miri) road is still the same as it was during the last election.

“Do the people in Marudi deserve this? Do the Baram people deserve this?” he argued during an interview yesterday.

Roland Dom also called for a change in the law to recognise the land rights of the Baram natives.

In this regard, he pointed out that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) had promised the people, including those in Sabah and Sarawak, of these rights – should PH form the government after the May 9 parliamentary polls.

“The candidate (for Baram) who is pursuing this (Native Customary Rights – NCR) land is (Parti Keadilan Rakyat candidate) Roland Engan. I support him,” said Roland Dom.

Roland Engan is up against BNProgressive Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Anyi Ngau in Baram.

In the 2013 parliamentary polls, Anyi won over Roland Engan with 194-vote majority.
