Huge crowd at Breakthrough WeCare Fest 4.0

KUCHING: A huge crowd thronged the Breakthrough WeCare Fest 4.0, where 74 stalls sold all manner of food items and other goods yesterday.

Among the stallholders was Sharon Sim, who makes art out of Perler beads, turning them into decorative items.

“I’ve been doing this for two years, and helping out in past charity fairs,” the auditor told The Borneo Post.

Looking the part of a tea merchant was Revd Michael Pei Liung Phin from the St Faith’s Parish Chinese Speaking Congregation.

The Chinese tea enthusiast had around 50 types of tea in his collection and cheerfully explained the fine art of brewing pu’er to visitors.

“You only need a little bit and you can brew an entire pot,” he said of one of the tea cakes for sale.

He also explained that the older the tea, the better the flavour.

Near the entrance, Sebastian Sim, 16, had a collection of exotic pets available for photo opportunities.

“Some are mine, the rest are on loan from friends for this event,” he said, adding that he has a soft spot for snakes and owned a few.

Sebastian, who developed an interest in exotic pets four years ago, is planning to bring the menagerie to school with him for an upcoming fundraiser.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, who officiated at the event, reminded those present about the importance of the parliamentary election.

“It is a fight for Sarawak to get back our oil and gas money. We are very tired of sharing our oil money with the whole country,” he said.
