Mega speciality fertiliser plant to be built in Sipitang

-

SIPITANG: The State Government of Sabah, Eurochem, PCG and Tecnimont have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a unique world class mega speciality fertiliser plant in Sipitang Oil & Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP).

Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Hj Aman announced this at a meetthe-people session in Sipitang yesterday.

Musa added the project had the full support and blessing of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said the target market for this proposed fertiliser plant would be focused primarily at the South Asian markets and specific international markets.

It will provide support in the agricultural sector for both Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak; reduce or even eliminate the importation of urea from outside Malaysia; provide employment for several thousand skilled workers from Malaysia during the anticipated construction period of about three and a half years; create permanent employment and job opportunities under the proposed operator which will directly create a local value chain of services such as transportation and logistics within the geographic area.

The project will also create economic spinoffs and spur the local economy.

Meanwhile, Musa continued his campaign trail to Papar after visiting Sipitang and Membakut earlier yesterday.

In Papar, Musa attended the meet-the-people programme at Dewan Datuk Salleh Sulong there.

Also in attendance were BN candidates for Pantai Manis state constituency, Datuk Haji Abdul Rahim Ismail, Kawang state constituency, Datuk Ghulam Khaidar Khan and Papar parliamentary constituency, Datuk Rosnah Rashid Shirlin.
