Police to appoint church liaison officers to coordinate security matters

PENAMPANG: The Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) Sabah Contingent is to widen its security services by appointing a church liaison officer to coordinate security matters.

Sabah Police Commissioner, Datuk Ramli Din, said RMP appointed church officer is following in line with its counterparts for schools and mosques.

“This will maximise RMP services in the community, especially since there are many Christian RMP Sabah officers. Security matters will also be better handled this way,” he said, after attending a prayers ceremony in conjunction with the 211th Police Remembrance Day 2018 at St. Michael’s Church in Penampang on Sunday.

Ramli said, the officer will visit the church once or twice a month to inquire and discuss safety and security issues there.

He said, although there is generally no problem in Sabah, RMP does not want to take anything for granted.

“We aim to provide the best service possible to the community. That is why we try to look for ways we can fulfill this aspiration,” said Ramli.

Meanwhile, RMP Sabah contingent is ready for duty for this 14th general election (GE14), tomorrow (May 9).

Ramli said, all RMP personnel and officers statewide are prepared for GE14, to ensure the polling process runs smoothly.

“Up to 94.6 per cent of RMP personnel in Sabah have participated in early voting on Saturday and 501 voted by post. All personnel and officers involved have successfully fulfilled their responsibility to vote,” he said.
