PM orders curb on fake news

-

SANDAKAN: Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to curb the spreading of fake news on social media within four hours so that the truth could be spread to the public to avoid any negative perception on Barisan Nasional (BN).

The ministry’s Deputy Secretary General, Datuk Wan Ali Besar asked all officers and personnel under the ministry here to follow the reminder made by the Prime Minister on the matter and take immediate action once they spot any spreading of fake issues (information) on social media.

“Explain to the community the accurate issues that are happening. At the same time, increase productivity to ensure the government’s services could be felt by the Rakyat. ‘Feel Good Factor’ wave by the Federal Government must also be moved through optimum use of social media,” he said when speaking to personnel of agencies and departments under the Ministry of Home Affairs during the Turun Padang programme held at the Batu Sapi People’s Housing Project yesterday.

He also told the attendees that civil servants should carry out their responsibilities as personnel who are under public service and give undivided support to the Federal and State Governments based on the principle of loyalty pledge that they read when they first started working.

“I urge all civil servants under the Ministry of Home Affairs, as personnel under public service, to perform your responsibility and be wise voters. The future of our children and the country is in our hands. As federal public service personnel, we must ‘istiqomah’ and practise ‘Wala’ concept or loyalty to the central government.

“Support and commitment from personnel of public service is needed to ensure that the TN50 (Transformasi Nasional 2050) could be reached to make Malaysia one of the top 20 countries in economic, social and innovation development. Do not be ‘like peanuts that forget its skin’ (ungrateful),” he added.

Also present at the programme were BN candidates for Batu Sapi parliamentary seat, Datuk Linda Tsen Thau Lin and Sekong state seat, Datuk Samsudin Yahya.

At the event, Wan Ali also presented a grant from the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) worth RM25,000 each to six District Rehabilitation Committees, birth certificates from the National Registration Department (NRD), and ADAM50 from Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) to ten recipients.
