KUALA LUMPUR: Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) deployed 10,939 auxiliary officers and personnel to 13 contingents nationwide except Perlis yesterday, in conjunction with the 14th General Election.

PDRM Bukit Aman management director Datuk Seri Abdul Ghafar Rajab said the policemen were from Bukit Aman, Maktab PDRM Cheras and Police Training Centres (Pulapol) nationwide, including from Pulapol Kuala Lumpur.

He said the initial request for reinforcement was 13,233 but the figure was settled at 10,939 after a study, with more to be mobilised if required.

“In Perlis, the existing 1,786 personnel and officers are sufficient, and more personnel would be added if necessary,” he told a press conference after the send-off ceremony here yesterday.

He said the police were well prepared for GE14, and the additional personnel would further boost the 82,372-strong workforce at police contingents throughout the country.

Earlier, Abdul Ghafar ‘flagged off’ 2,880 of the personnel and officers from Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, Maktab PDRM Cheras and Pulapol Kuala Lumpur who have been assigned to Pahang, Kelantan, Kedah, Selangor and the federal capital.

He also assured the public that they could go out to vote on May 9 without feeling afraid or threatened as police would be around to maintain peace and public order.

He added that the auxiliary policemen would resume their normal duties from May 14. Bernama
