Tengku Adnan is not seasonal leader

-

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is known in Putrajaya as a ‘non-seasonal’ leader who is not on the ground only during the general election.

Fondly known as Ku Nan, he is commonly seen during meet-thepeople programmes in the national administrative centre as well as government official events in view of his responsibilities as Federal Territories Minister.

In fact, his presence at surau and mosques in Putrajaya to perform mass prayers is not something foreign to the community here.

Tengku Adnan said it was his way to listen to the people’s woes for the past 14 years.

“In Putrajaya, I will perform the Dawn prayers in every surau, there are 62 surau here, so in 62 days I will rotate each surau,” he said at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Ar-Rahman Mosque complex and Precinct 16 religious school here on Sunday.

Azlimi Abdullah, 36, who lives in Putrajaya since 2003, said a leader like Tengku Adnan was irreplaceable because of his good relationship with the community since long ago.

“I would often meet Ku Nan at any event and community programme, even if he is invited to a feast he will make the effort to come,” said the nurse.

N.Kumari, 32, said Tengku Adnan was well-liked for his leadership qualities and always ready to help the people, regardless of time and place.

“I hope Tengku Adnan will win again this time,” said Kumari who would cast her vote for the first time in Putrajaya since staying here in 2011. In the 14th General Election, Tengku Adnan is being challenged by Zainal Abidin Kidam of PAS and Datuk Dr Samsu Adabi of PKR-PPBM.

For the record, Tengku Adnan, who is also the BN secretarygeneral, is the Putrajaya member of parliament for three consecutive terms since 2004. In GE13, Tengku Adnan defeated Datuk Husam Musa who then represented PAS with a majority of 5,541 votes.

When met by reporters after the nomination process on April 28, Tengku Adnan said he left it to the voters to choose who should be their representative in Putrajaya.

“I am convinced that they know me as I am local, and Putrajaya residents will definitely vote for a local candidate compared to outsiders,” he said. - Bernama
