‘Decision on SUPP remaining in BN lies with delegates conference’

-

SIBU: The decision on whether Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) stays with Barisan Nasional (BN) or otherwise is a matter to be debated and determined in a Special Delegates Conference.

SUPP Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong said under Article 17 of SUPP’s constitution, a Delegates Conference – whether Triennial or Special – is the highest authority in the party.

“All delegates are elected by all the branches in SUPP representing them to attend the Delegates Conference.

“These delegates are the cream of SUPP. Thus, the delegates who represent the grassroots must be given a chance to voice their views,” he said in a press conference here yesterday.

Asked whether Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian should resign as SUPP president following the party’s dismal showing in the justconcluded polls, Wong said Sim was democratically elected by the Delegates Conference in Dec 2017.

“Thus, the Delegates Conference is the proper platform to determine his position as party president.

“There are two ways to convene a Special Delegates Conference (SDC). One is for the party’s Central Working Committee to convene an SDC. The other is for two branches that have combined registered members forming 20 per cent of the total number of SUPP members, to petition for an SDC,” he added.

On a different note, Wong said SUPP is happy there was a peaceful transition of power and hopes the new government under Pakatan Harapan (PH) will fulfill all its promises.
