KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah branch president Datuk Frankie Liew has congratulated the newly elected federal government and Sabah State Cabinet.

“Especially with the most Chinese representatives in the state cabinet, we believe that this will bring greater potential for the future trade and investment between Malaysia and China,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Liew said that the 14th general election and transition of power of both the federal and state governments were smoothly completed, reflecting the spirit of democracy and patriotism. Foreign investors now would have more confidence on the stable situation in Malaysia and Sabah.

“China is a very important market for Malaysia, especially in Sabah. China investors have begun to participate in many fields whether it is in tourism, real estate, plantation, or import or export, There are even more opportunities for cooperation and growth in the future,” he added.

Liew also praised the appointment of Lim Guan Eng as Finance Minister and Robert Kuok in the Council of Elders.

“Lim is a former banker and a qualified chartered accountant. Aside of that, he has also brought social-economic development to Penang.

“Robert Kuok is well respected in both Malaysia and China. His good relationship with both governments will guarantee a closer relationship and we can expect more doors will be opened,” he said.

Liew also believed the new Sabah Cabinet which has four Chinese ministers and four Chinese assistant ministers covering a number of important areas, will bring greater benefits and attract more China investors and capital to Sabah.

He also hoped the new government would honor various commitments, to be fair, just and transparent, and enhance our efficiency and competitiveness.

“MCCC Sabah will fully cooperate and support the government to attract more investors and investment from China,” he added.
