Married couple charged with RM2 million CBT
PETALING JAYA: A married couple was charged in the Sessions Court here yesterday with criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM2 million belonging to Yayasan Budi Penyayang, eight years ago.
Helmy Abdul Halim and wife, Shanizarina Shamsuddin, both 43, pleaded not guilty when the eight charges against them were read out separately before Judge Datin Fadzlin Suraya Mohd Suah.
According to the charges, Shanizarina as the foundation's then senior administrative and financial executive who had been entrusted with its money, allegedly committed CBT involving RM1,085,296 by misusing the sum for personal use.
The woman had also put money into her husband's account. Helmy was not a staff of the foundation.
The self-employed Helmy was also charged with four counts of abetting Shanizarina to commit CBT with the foundation's funds amounting to RM972,936.35.
All the offences were allegedly committed at Yayasan Budi Penyayang, 3rd Floor, Wisma Equine in Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan here between April 2010 and Nov 2013.
Deputy public prosecutor Ashyraf Ashy'ari Kamaruzaman appeared for the prosecution while Helmy and Shanizarina were represented by counsel Azimah Che Mat.
The court allowed Helmy bail of RM32,000 and Shanizarina RM64,000 in one surety, ordered them to surrender their passports and fixed June 11 for mention.
