SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali will meet with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as soon as possible to get further clarification on his appointment as Minister of Economic Affairs yesterday.

Mohamed Azmin said he only knew about the appointment after he was informed by Selangor State Secretary Datuk Mohd Amin Ahmad Ahya a short while ago.

“I thank Tun Dr Mahathir for his faith in me leading such a senior ministry. The responsibility is very big as the work is to revive the national economy.

“However, I have informed the Sultan of Selangor about this and have also informed him that I will be meeting the prime minister soon, maybe tonight or at the latest tomorrow, to get further clarification on the scope of duties entrusted to me,” he said.

Mohamed Azmin was speaking to reporters after a break-offast session given by the Sultan of Selangor to the public at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque last night.

Azmin said the outcome of his meeting with the prime minister would be presented to the Sultan today to decide whether he (Azmin) should remain in Selangor or should move to the federal government.

He added that he had been informed by the prime minister that he would play a role at the federal level but he was not told it would be in a ministry.

Asked if he would hold two portfolios, Mohamed Azmin said: ‘Of course cannot’.

Earlier yesterday, Dr Mahathir announced in a statement nine more names of Pakatan Harapan members of Parliament who were appointed as federal ministers, including Mohamed Azmin who is also PKR deputy president.
