Existing contracts under scrutiny – Christina

- By Alen Kee

TAWAU: Deputy Chief Minister Christina Liew said current work contracts approved by the previous state government are being scrutinized to ensure the contracts were not obtained through corruption or power abuse.

She said Sabahans’ wish for a transparent and fair treatment for all by the new government is being fulfilled which will extend to future generations to come and bring about a strong unification among all races.

“We are committed to do this because the strength of the country lies in the unity among Malaysian regardless of race or religion and we are here to make Malaysia great again and a nation that we can be proud of,” she told about 1,000 guests at a dinner held at Lau Gek Poh Foundation hall on Friday night.

Christina, who is also the Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, said that in line with the vision, ministers that did not perform will be dropped. Touching on her ministry, Christina said the district will see some 100 tourists from China coming to visit on May 25 and it is the first step toward making the district a tourist attraction spot.

“We have the attraction to lure them in and with a joint effort from all parties, we can enhance our economy and provide more jobs through the industry,” she said.

She stressed that such chain reaction will benefit the district if the momentum is kept by introducing packages to tourists.

Christina also commented on two issues raised by Kota Kinabalu member of parliament Chan Foong Hin over the logging of surrounding areas meant for the setup of a geothermal energy plant here which did not take place and the Cinta Mata water dam which was proposed years earlier but only began construction during the 14th general election.

“I will investigate both issues raised and we will get to the bottom of both,” she said.

The event was organized by Datuk Chin Chee Syn, a staunch supporter of a change of government who pledged to hold a dinner event during a talk he gave recently. Also present were Kota Kinabalu member of parliament Chan Foong Hin and Sri Tanjong assemblyman Jimmy Wong.
