Umno members throng Najib's residence
KUALA LUMPUR: The residence of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Langgak Duta here has been the focus of state Umno members since early yesterday morning.
Among those present were Umno Puteri chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin and Rim, Melaka State Assemblyman Datuk Ghazale Muhamad and exstate executive council member Datuk Latiff Tamby Chik.
Mas Ermieyati, who was a former deputy tourism and culture minister, arrived at the residence with the others at 12.30 pm with their vehicle parked near the access road to the residence which was guarded by police.
A few minutes later Umno Bukit Katil Division head Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam arrived at the residence.
According to Mohd Ali, their presence was to express support for the former president of the party.
Bernama's on-site watch found that Najib's residence continued to be the focus of some 30 local and international media practitioners who had turned up here since 6 am yesterday.
However, as of 1.40 pm there had been no progress in the latest police investigation.
Earlier Thursday morning, police seized 72 bags containing jewellery, various currencies and valuables at a luxury condominium in Jalan Raja Chulan here, believed to be related to the former prime minister in the investigation on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh said 284 boxes of luxury brand handbags were also confiscated from three more residential condominium units in the same area.
Najib and Rosmah had been blacklisted by the Immigration Department from leaving the country.
On Tuesday, Dr Mahathir said he expected the charge to be imposed on Najib following an investigation into claims that the former prime minister had stolen hundreds of millions of US dollars from the 1MDB's fund. Bernama
