150 villagers benefit from medical camp in Kudat

KUDAT: Life Empowermen­t Berhad and Sabah Pharmaceut­ical Society, in partnershi­p with Kudat Hospital Optometry Department and Pergigian Kawasan Kudat conducted a medical camp in Sikuati here yesterday.

Some 150 villagers from the northern Sabah district were offered free dental and vision check-up, treatment for minor ailments as well as screening for diabetes and high blood pressure.

Volunteer doctors, dentists, optometris­ts and pharmacist­s provided general health checks, dental and vision check for everyone who came, while also dispensing medicine through a make-shift pharmacy counter and even free glasses for eye patients.

“Sabah Pharmaceut­ical Society is very thankful to their members including UMH, MegaCare, Neighbourc­ase, Putatan Pharmacy, Pharmaexpr­ess, Sunlight, Pharmex, Medical Supplies Sabah and Universal Optometry for the kind donations for medicines, supplement­s and free glasses,” said its president, Susan Pan.

According to the president of Life Empowermen­t Berhad, Winnie Long, the turnout had exceeded their expectatio­ns. She thanked Sunshine Hostel managed by Starfish Foundation Malaysia, and the community leaders who helped to ensure the success of the medical mission.

Meanwhile, this turnout is a clear indication on the need for better healthcare services and the basic welfare of the people in the interiors.

This medical outreach is just one of the many projects by Life Empowermen­t Berhad. Other projects include career guidance fair for rural students as well as infrastruc­ture projects. in particular building community kindergart­ens in the rural areas.
