S’gor Palace to issue official statement on Azmin’s status today

SHAH ALAM: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddi­n Idris Shah will issue an official statement pertaining to the status of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Mohamed Azmin confirmed the matter after having an audience with the Sultan and discussing his status as menteri besar for about two hours at the Istana Bukit Kayangan here yesterday.

This followed the announceme­nt of his appointmen­t as Minister of Economic Affairs in the administra­tion of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad last Friday.

“I had an audience with the Sultan today and informed His Majesty about the latest developmen­t.

“The meeting ended on a positive note and His Majesty will issue an official statement on my status as the menteri besar at 9 am tomorrow,” he told reporters after coming out from the palace at 1.50 pm.

Last Friday, Dr Mahathir announced the list of 15 Cabinet minister in his administra­tion, including Mohamed Azmin as Minister of Economic Affairs.

The swearing-in ceremony for all the Cabinet ministers is scheduled to be held at the Istana Negara today.

Mohamed Azmin, who is Bukit Antarabang­sa assemblyma­n and Gombak Member of Parliament, was appointed as Selangor Menteri Besar after Pakatan Harapan managed to retain power in the state in the 14th General Election on May 9.

Two assemblyme­n speculated to take his place are Amiruddin Shari (Sungai Tua) and Dr Shaharuddi­n Badaruddin (Seri Setia). - Bernama
