Police halt flight of ‘Black Crow Gang’, gun down African robber

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have clipped the wings of the notorious ‘Black Crow Gang’ whose African and local members were involved in foreign currency robberies totalling RM12 million over the past two years.

The gang was routed after a police team shot dead an African member and arrested an African, Arab and two locals in Ampang here early on Saturday.

Initial police investigations have revealed the gang’s suspected mastermind is an African who is one of the four suspects currently under police detention.

Kuala Lumpur police chief, Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said the gang was believed to have been actively engaged in foreign currency robberies in Kuala Lumpur since 2016.

He said the heists involved losses totalling RM12 million and they were based on the number of police reports lodged by the victims against the ‘Black Crow Gang’.

“The gang’s modus operandi was to offer higher exchange rates than market rates before robbing the victims and escaping with their money,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Mazlan said the latest case yesterday in Jalan Damai, Cheras involved US$150,000 (RM595,805) belonging to a 29year-old man who was robbed by a gang of ‘Black Crow Gang’ members.

After the victim alerted the police, a team of policemen pursued a black Toyota Vios ferrying two Africans, an Arab and two locals until the vehicle stalled in Jalan Memanda 2, Ampang here.

“At that juncture, one of the Africans lunged at a policeman with a machete before he was shot dead. Following a short chase, the police detained the rest of the dead man’s accomplices.

“We are looking for two more Africans to facilitate investigations,” he said.

The suspects, aged between 28 and 50 were remanded for four days. - Bernama
