MIRI: Sarawakians are called to support the effort of the Chief Minister in finding the best way to collaborate with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to ensure that the state continues to receive benefits from the federal government.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the state government needs to use the best channel to foster collaboration with the federal government, particularly in terms of bringing in developments for the state.

“The state government is committed to ensuring that all the needs of the people are met, even if we have to collaborate with the PH government,” he said when officiating at the Miri Division Gawai Dayak Dinner at Meritz Hotel here on Saturday.

His text-of-speech was read by Deputy State Legislative Assembly Speaker and Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala, who represented him at the dinner.

The dinner was organised by Miri Division Gawai Dayak Celebration Committee which is made up of various Dayak and Orang Ulu ethnic groups. Hosting this year’s celebration is the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA).

Also present at the dinner were Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin; Assistant Minister of Native Land Development Roland Sagah; Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau; director of the Administrative Unit of the Chief Minister’s Department Antonio Kahti Galis; Miri Resident Sherrina Hussaini; DBNA president Datu Ik Pahon Joyik and the organising chairman of the dinner Captain Bernard Idit.

Earlier, Awang Tengah said the recently concluded general election showed that the people were wise in choosing their leaders.

“We can see that the people still put their trust in BN because many of our candidates still won, except for a few constituencies,” he said.

With this new political scenario, where the country is under a new government, Awang Tengah said everyone should double their efforts to uphold unity among all races, in order to have the strength to fight for the rights of Sarawakians under the PH government.

Touching on the dinner, he said the theme of the dinner – ‘Together Embracing Digital Era’ – was appropriate as Sarawak was moving towards digital economy.
