PENAMPANG: A new smartphone app designed to help people learn the KadazanDusun language will be launched, said Assistant Minister of Education and Innovation Jenifer Lasimbang.

The app, which will be unveiled soon, is designed for everyone who wants to learn the language, especially the youth of today.

“We must preserve our mother tongue as KadazanDusun language as it is our identity.

“This app is designed so that the youth can learn our KadazanDusun language,” she said when officiating the Kaamatan event at Kampung Soobong, Kolopis yesterday.

The Moyog assemblywoman also revealed that the app is free and was made possible for the people through the little success of Huminodun, a movie that tells of the goddess's iconic story.

“With a little money gained from the Huminodun movie, we are able to do this app,” she explained further.

Meanwhile, Jenifer who starred in the 2017 Huminodun movie as Sumundu, expressed her concern about the inability of the youngsters to master the Kadazan language.

“We have beautiful actresses in the movie but they can't really deliver the given role because of their inability to speak the KadazanDusun language.

“While I was trying to memorize the script, I also had to train and teach the young actress to master the language for the movie,” she added.
