Larico enters records book for building nation’s tallest electricity tower
SIBU: Larico Infrastructure Sdn Bhd (Larico) has etched its name in Malaysia Book of Records (MBR), having built the tallest power transmission tower in the country.
Larico general manager William Mok Ing Wen said the tower, standing at 109.79m, is located near Lebaan Bridge – about a 25-minute drive from town.
It is said that the usual height of electricity towers in Malaysia ranges between 30m and 40m.
The tower here, he said, was part of the company’s contract with the state’s energy provider Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB), under Sungai Maaw-Tanjong Manis 2 Package III Power Transmission Tower project.
Larico was awarded a RM76million contract to erect a total of 219 power transmission towers along the 76km stretch from Sungai Maaw to Tanjong Manis 2.
“We are proud to be officially listed in the MBR for the design, supply and erection of the tallest power transmission tower in the country.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank SEB for the continuous support towards local contractors such as ourselves and we look forward to breaking new records together in the future,” he said prior to the presentation of the MBR certificate at the tower site yesterday.
MBR senior research journalist Nurasyikin Ramli presented the certificate to Mok, witnessed by SEB project manager for Sungai Maaw-Tanjung Manis 2 Package III project, Yii Ming Ta.
Mok said the project commenced in April 2015 and should reach completion by the end of this October.
Nevertheless, he also noted one factor that affected the progress of the project – the Native Customary Rights (NCR) land issue, which they had tried their best to resolve.
On Larico, he described the company as the ‘leading engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contractor in the country, specialising in power transmission systems’.
Besides SEB, he said other clients also included Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd and Tenaga Nasional Bhd.
