Social worker targets undertaking 1,000 acts of charity

KUCHING: Voluntary social worker Lim Chee How aims to achieve 1,000 acts of charity within the next several years.

For now, he has already performed 765 acts of charity since devoting his life to charity work after retiring from the Marine Police almost 10 years ago.

One of his acts of charity is gathering people to pool funds meant to buy food items and also to be given away as cash donations to individuals and organisations in need, irrespective of racial and religious orientation.

“I hope I could do it. Performing 1,000 acts of charity is my goal, but I will never stop helping the poor and the needy.

“I have lived through poverty and hardship during my younger years, and I have pledged to help others when my life is better. This is now my chance to do it,”he said yesterday.

On another matter, Lim said he could be contacted at 082248153 / 016-8070388 to help poor non-Muslim families in acquiring coffins for the funerals of their departed family members.

According to him, cash donations from Good Samaritans have been channelled to a coffin shop at Mile 3 1/2 near here, which would send over the coffins to the eligible families.

“So far, several coffins have been sent to poor families as far as in Bau, Serian and Sri Aman. The latest recipient was a family from Sungai Apong, who requested the coffin to be sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) mortuary, following the death of a family member.”

The other recipients, said Lim, were families from Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog, Mile 18 of Kuching-Serian Road, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah, Mile 27 KuchingSerian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.
