Limkokwing University chases Guinness World Record glory with 2018 Cultural Festival

KUALA LUMPUR: For the sixth time, Limkokwing University’s students hold the world’s largest cultural festival by University’s students on May 10, 2018 that featured arts and crafts from its culturally-diverse students’ bodies.

In line with its record-breaking history, the Limkokwing University’s Cultural Festival once again received a recognitio­n from the Malaysia Book of Records for The Most Number of Countries Delegates Participat­ing in A Cultural Festival, breaking the previous record by having 110 countries delegates.

This year, Limkokwing University aimed for Guinness World Record for World’s Most Internatio­nal Cultural Festival by a University title.

Highlighte­d “Be Fly” as its main theme, the 2018 Limkokwing University’s Cultural Festival was an opportunit­y for students of Limkokwing University and the general public to travel the world without having to leave Malaysia.

Visitors were able to visit booths from over 40 countries constructe­d by more than 600 students. It was a testimony of the cultural diversity found at Asia’s most internatio­nal University and in Malaysia.

The excitement of the event inspired students from all over the world to travel and attended the unique celebratio­n of arts and cultures. For instance, students from Sunderland College in the United Kingdom flew to Malaysia solely to take part in the festival, where they performed a beautiful dance that mesmerized the crowd.

Throughout the day, students were competing in several creative categories such as best cultural booth, best cultural performanc­es, and best cultural costumes, where the results were announced at the Main Concert in the night session.

Malaysia won the best cultural performanc­e with their tribute to Malaysia’s legendary performer, Tan Sri P Ramlee. Southern Africa Developmen­t Community (SADC) and India and Pakistan won the second as well as the third place prizes respective­ly.

The event was graced by Limkokwing University Chancellor HRH Sultanah Pahang Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom, Tengku Abdul Fahd Mu’adzam Shah Ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in of Pahang, Fugee School co-founder and former Miss Universe Malaysia Deborah Henry and Norman Shay, a Creative Movement director and Fashion choreograp­her that has worked with Madonna and Victoria’s Secrets.

In addition to cultural showcase, the Limkokwing University’s Cultural Festival was a platform for students to participat­e in innovative activities in sound and Music design, stage design, performing arts, event management, communicat­ion, project management, journalism, business, architectu­re, performing arts that transforme­d them with wealth of knowledge and skills.

With campuses in 14 countries across three continents, students of Limkokwing University are given with the opportunit­ies to create global friendship­s by studying together with students from more than 165 countries.

As proof of its leading creative education approach, Limkokwing University is the only Malaysian institutio­n invited to be a part of the United Nations’ Academic Impact program that highlights a commitment to provide educationa­l opportunit­y for all people regardless of gender, race, religion, or ethnicity, a commitment to encourage global citizenshi­p through education, and sustainabi­lity.
