Ministry to review performance of councillors – Jaujan

-

KOTA KINABALU: A review will be carried out on existing members of the local councils, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong.

Jaujan, who is also Minister of Local Government and Housing, assured that the review would be based on performance rather than the councillors’ political affiliation.

He said existing members of the councils who have shown good performance and service would be retained.

He added that the ministry would not appoint councillors who were not suitable for the job as well.

“We will discuss with the elected representatives in the district on this matter,” Jaujan replied when asked whether the existing councillors, who were political appointees, would be retained with the change in government.

He said this after a briefing by the agencies under the Ministry of Local Government and Housing here yesterday.

Jaujan assured existing councillors not to worry as they were rakyat of Sabah whom the State government should look after.

“This does not have anything to do with parties. What’s important is leadership and whether they meet the needs of the people.”

Jaujan added Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) had proper planning in place when it joined the election and formed the government.

He said the only way for the Warisan-Pakatan Harapan (PH) pact to stay as government was to look after the people well.

Also present was Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Hiew Vun Zin.
