CEP’s 1MDB committee tasked with coordinating cross sector investigation
KUALA LUMPUR: The Council of Eminent Persons’ (CEP) 1Malaysia Development Committee (1MDB) Committee is tasked with coordinating cross sector investigation to ensure fair and just application of the law and to advise the council accordingly.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said the 1MDB Committee would be supported by the newly formed special investigation task force team who will report directly to the committee.
“All investigation activities will be conducted by the relevant authorities within the powers vested in them.
“The primary focus will be to ensure that Malaysia is able to secure convictions on all the wrongdoings related to 1MDB and to maximise the recovery of all assets traceable to 1MDB,” the statement said.
Led by former AttorneyGeneral Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman, other members of the CEP’s 1MDB Committee were PwC Risk Assurance Services Partner Nik Shahrizal Sulaiman, Naqiz & Partners Senior Partner Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin Syed Abdul Jabbar, Indonesian Financial Services Authority Senior Advisor Faris Rabidin and Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism Founder Cynthia Gabriel.
Meanwhile, the task force team is jointly led by for Attorney-General Tan Sri Gani Patail, former chief commissioner of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, the new MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull, and the former deputy director of Bukit Aman Special Branch Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador.
Both the committee and the task force team met with the CEP on Monday to provide an update on operational strategies. - Bernama
