Restaurant operator fined over minimum wage

KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday fined an eatery operator RM3,500, in default, three months’ jail for falling to comply with the Minimum Wage Order 2016.

Magustrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus also ordered the employer, who was the representa­tive for the restaurant, to furnish outstandin­g payment of RM1,020 within one month from the issuance order’s date.

The offence was under Section 43 of the National Wages Consultati­ve Council 2011.

An unemployed man was jailed for 18 months by the same court here yesterday for keeping a stolen gadget.

Muhammad Amirul Saik Basar, 30, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to five years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

The accused admitted to having the stolen tablet at the security guard house of a residentia­l area at Bundusan on March 26.

In an unrelated case, a 48year-old driver claimed trial in the same court to committing mischief on a person’s property.

Anjam Mokhtar had allegedly broken the glass window of the victim’s house at Kampung Tugu in Petagas, Putatan at 10am on May 13.

The magistrate fixed June 20 for the case management and released the accused on RM3,000 bail with two local sureties.
