College students perform on North Borneo Cruise

-

KOTA KINABALU: For the Malaysia Music Teachers Training College (MMTC), equipping its students with the necessary skills to perform as musicians is just as important as teaching them theoretical music knowledge to become music teachers in the future.

In the past, the institution has always given its students plenty of opportunities to perform in front of live audiences. Today, the North Borneo Cruises, under Amazing Borneo Tours -- one of Sabah’s leading tour agencies, hase given MMTC students what would probably be their biggest performance stage ever by performing in front of tourists on the prestigious North Borneo Cruises.

The first performance by the MMTC students took place during the Sunset Dinner Cruise on May 21. The students who took part in the performance were final-year student Esther Ho, second-year student Vivien Tong, as well as first-year students Stanley Nelfrey and Brian Liew.

The musical quartet performed several popular numbers, such as the iconic ‘Sayang Kinabalu’ by Asmin Mudin, the timeless ‘Stand by Me’ by Ben E King, as well as contemporary favourites like Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ and ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ among others.

MMTC CEO and Principal Peter Chua expressed his gratitude and excitement following the invitation to perform from Amazing Borneo.

“We are always looking for opportunities to highlight the talents of our students, and in the past, we have done that by holding open recitals for the public several times a year. However, the opportunity to perform in front of a paying audience is still rare for our students, therefore, we are so thankful to Amazing Borneo for this opportunity,” said Peter.

Prior to the invitation to perform on the North Borneo Cruises, the MMTC students had also been given the chance to perform during the Amazing Borneo Open day earlier this month.

More than a college for music teachers, MMTC strives to be a lifeskill college that is fully committed to improving soft skills as well as upscaling human capital in the creative arts industry, particularly in the music retail and teaching industry.

As the first ever vocational institution for creative arts in Sabah and Malaysia, MMTC also teaches entrepreneurship skills to its students.

The college believes that by equipping its students with a wide range of enterprising skills, they will find success and employment opportunities everywhere and anywhere they wish to be!
