Aidilfitri road safety operation starts June 7

-

PUTRAJAYA: The Transport Ministry will launch the “Ops Bersepadu” or Integrated Ops on June 7 in a bid to reduce road accidents and fatalities during the upcoming two-week mid year school holiday and Aidilfitri celebration, says Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

He said the operation involving the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA) and the Road Transport Department (RTD) will be launched simultaneously at Seremban south-bound rest and service (R&R) area and at all exits from the Klang Valley.

“We will also hold our advocacy programme in Sungai Buloh or Rawang and on the east coast. The programme will be held in several areas,” he told reporters after visiting the Road Safety Department yesterday.

Loke also visited the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) located at Galeria PJH in Precinct 4, and ordered all of its counters to operate as usual and not to reject any new applications following the announcement made on Wednesday about the disbandment of the commission.

“They have to accept all applications such as permits for commercial vehicles and additional buses. The applications will be accepted as usual, but the approval will be given by the Transport Ministry SecretaryGeneral,” he said.

On Thursday, Loke assured SPAD staff would not be laid off following the disbandment of the commission and that they would be absorbed as permanent staff under the RTD as there are 1,000 vacancies there.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a press conference after chairing the first Cabinet meeting announced that four entities, namely SPAD, Special Affairs Department (Jasa), National Council of Professors (MPN) and Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JKKKP) would be disbanded as a measure to cut government spending.
