KOTA KINABALU: Sixty-one participants graduated from the Ascot Academy with Certificate in Hospitality Operations and Executive Certificate in Tour Management.

The course programmes lasted six months and comprised theory and practical learning involving industry partners around the city centre.

Head of Programme, Steve Benedict, said, internationalstandard skills must be developed for quality manpower in order to keep up with upgrading of tourism infrastructure and to meet industry demands.

In collaboration with the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Sabah Chapter, Ascot Academy designed the Executive Certificate in Tour Management course to expose and train participants in various modules, he said.

“All 31 participants of the course have received job offers before completing their training, while 28 of 30 participants of the Certificate in Hospitality Operations have received offers.

“We ensure that participants are able to secure job opportunities before receiving their certificate by arranging interviews or through the SKYEP application, in keeping up with the times,” said Steve.

Meanwhile, student representative, Farrychales Dasuin, said, the certificate received after half a year of training is a symbol of the participants' success, but it is only the beginning.

“This is not the end of our learning process but a starting point to improve ourselves, our community and nation.

“I hope the Sabah State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) will continue working with Ascot to train more youths to fine tune their skills, especially in hospitality and tourism as there are countless opportunities in the field,” he said.
