Jamal Yunos claims trial to causing public nuisance

KUALA LUMPUR: Sungai Besar Umno Division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos was yesterday charged with causing public nuisance by smashing beer bottles in front of the Selangor State Secretary Building in Shah Alam last year.

In the proceeding conducted at the Premier ward of the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital here, Jamal, 48, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin.

Jamal is currently undergoing treatment for his back pain at the hospital.

He was charged with committing public nuisance by smashing bottles of beer with a hammer resulting in disaster, danger and public annoyance in front of the gate of the Selangor State Secretary building, Shah Alam at 10.15 am on Oct 5, 2017.

The charge, under Section 290 of the Penal Code carries a maximum fine of RM400, upon conviction.

Media practition­ers were not allowed to enter the ward during the proceeding which begin at 10.45 am and lasted half an hour.

Deputy public prosecutor Megat Mahathir Megat Tharih Afendi when met by reporters after the proceeding said the court allowed Jamal bail of RM3,000 with one surety and fixed June 8 for mention.

Jamal was represente­d by lawyer Mohd Nasir Yusof.
