Felda coach uneasy with home artificial turf

MARAN: Felda United head coach B. Satiananthan has expressed concern over performance of his players when playing on the artificial turf at Tun Abdul Razak Stadium, in Jengka here, despite winning 1-0 against Sabah Thursday night.

He said the turf had a negative impact on the players’ confidence and psychology, as they found it difficult to control the ball, besides worrying about injury.

“We have practised on artificial turf in Bangi before, but not all artificial turfs are the same .... I saw our team which play fast football found it difficult to control the ball, not to mention the bounce (on the turf).

“What’s even more troubling is that four of our players have been injured while playing on the field, especially when we played eight games in 26 days in April.

“If its possible I’d like the management to change the artificial turf to a grass field... if it’s (artificial turf) good, then why do top teams like Manchester United and Barcelona not play on them,” he said during a press conference after the match.

In Thursday night’s action, The Fighters won the game through Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor’s goal, strengthening their position at the top of the league with 32 points, while Sabah remained fifth with 15 points.

Commenting further, Satiananthan said he was not satisfied with the performance of his men, as they squandered many chances.

“Sabah played with just two import players, but they played with great spirit to bring pride to their state, whereas we lost the ball many times, and had two chances to score in the first 20 minutes, but failed to convert them.

“It is hoped that the players improve their game, especially when we play here in our next match,” he said. - Bernama
