Debt collector charged

KOTA KINABALU: A 23-yearold man claimed trial to a charge of disturbing a woman by shaking her house grill gates in an attempt to force her to pay her family’s debts.

Wong Cheng Chun who appeared before magistrate Afiq Agoes had allegedly committed the offence at a house in Inanam at 1.44pm on April 28.

The accused, who went there on behalf of a money lender, faces a charge under Section 29B (2) of the Money Lenders Act 1951 which is punishable by a fine of up to RM50,000 or a maximum jail term of two years or both, upon conviction.

The court set June 28 for case management and released the accused, who was represente­d by counsel Aida Jaafar Mad Ariff, on a bail of RM1,600 with two local sureties.

Prosecutin­g officer Inspectors Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit and Lim Swee Beng prosecuted.

Meanwhile, magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie fixed June 11 for further case management of an unemployed youth for allegedly carrying a machete in a public place.

Abdul Ghafar Mudz, 27, allegedly committed the offence at Kampung Kobusak in Penampang at 5pm on May 20.

The accused was charged under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958 which is punishable by a maximum jail of 10 years, upon conviction.

Abdul, who works as a labourer, is currently released on RM2,500 bail with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.
